COVID Restrictions Ends in Hawaii

Hawaii is moving toward the for mainland visitors as soon as this spring...

Gov. David Ige has announced that the Safe Travels Hawai‘i program and all COVID-19 restrictions will end after March 25th.

Indoor masking rules were originally set to stay in place and enforced, but as of late all COVID retaliated restrictions will be lifted on March 25th as well. Individual business are still allowed to set their own masking policies.

Hawaii is the last state to lift its travel rules and restrictions on businesses.

Female Hippo Joins the Zoo

The Honolulu Zoo welcomed Mara, a female hippopotamus, to the African Savanna today.

Mara is 18 years old, weighs approximately 3,610 pounds, and comes to Honolulu from the Los Angeles Zoo. She will join the zoo’s current female resident hippo, Louise, who is 30 years old and came from Denver.

Both are on exhibit in the hippo habitat at the African Savanna.

Oahu March & April Events

Oahu Events have started returning as visitors have this summer.

Farmers Markets were the first to return as they were deemed essential, but now some other social events are returning including Bishop Museum After Hours, Art After Dark at the Modern Museum of Art, Wildest Show at the Honolulu Zoo, Yoga in the Park, Holiday events and others.

Limiting Visitors Pupukea tidepools

There is a new bill up for review that addresses concerns over visitor impacts at Sharks Cove and Pupukea tidepools.

Similar to Hanauma Bay where visitors are now limited do to overuse of visitors snorkeling in the water, and destroying the reef in the process...

This proposed bill is arising from concerns about surging numbers of visitors to the Pupukea Marine Life Conservation District on Oahu’s North Shore will be heard by the state Senate Ways and Means Committee.

Target to replace Saks Fifth

Saks Fifth Avenue is closing its Hawaii flagship 80,000 sq ft space store at the International Market Place. Saks Fifth opened back in 2016, as was the anchoring store in the remodel of the popular market space.

Target will be moving into the space and plans on opening sometime in 2023. They will announce later as they get closer to opening and how they intend on using the space and catering to tourist needs. shopping-on-oahu.html

Large Event Restrictions Lifted

Along with COVID restrictions being lifted after March 25th, Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi announced that the capacity of 50% for large indoor events on Oahu with more than 1,000, can move to full capacity. oahu-events.html
